Second Grade Receives First Eucharist

Our Second Grade students have recently taken an important step in their journey to becoming fully initiated Catholics. On Sunday, 25 May. they received Holy Eucharist for the first time. It was a beautiful day. Mass was celebrated by Father Jude. The Second Grade students that attend Saint Benedict School prepared our school Liturgy on Thursday, 20 May. The students wore their First Holy Eucharist clothing and participated by selecting the readings and music, reading, carrying the Offertory gifts, and standing by Father Jude during the Consecration. After Mass the students and their family members attended a reception in the Church Hall. Congratulations, Second Grade! We are so very proud of you!

The Race for Education

Our Race for Education was held on 7 May.  It was a great success for our School. The students and families wrote to family and friends of Saint Benedict School and Parish asking for sponsors to support them as they walked in an effort to raise funds for the School.  Thank you to all who participated in the Race for Education. The Race was coordinated by a team of dedicated mothers and chaired by Carol Schall and Cheryl Barrett. It couldn’t have happened without them! The total amount raised will be posted when the final amount is calculated. Thank you all for your generous support!

Iowa Test Results

The Iowa Tests of Basic Skills is a norm referenced achievement battery composed of tests in several subject areas. The key to this type of battery is standardization: all the tests have been administered under uniform conditions at each grade level to a representative group of students from the nation’s private and public schools. Resulting scores obtained from across the nation are the norms that provide the basis for interpreting student performance.

The ITBS was administered to students in Grade Two through Grade Eight in March. Test results affirm the School community’s commitment to providing academic excellence to students. Overall, only 2% of the student population scored below grade level, 11% scored on grade level, and 87% of students performed above grade level. In other words, 98% of Saint Benedict School students performed on or above the norm when compared with students throughout the nation

Congratulations

Saint Benedict School students,

 for a job well done!

Wishing all of Saint Benedict School students, families, faculty and staff a safe and blessed summer.

Summer Blessing

Go now, children, and know that the Spirit of Jesus will be watching over you. Go now and enjoy God’s summer gifts of warm sun, cooling waters and long, light evenings. Go now, children, with the gift of Faith, that you might see God’s hand in all of your work and play. Go now, with the gift of Hope, that you might know God’s guidance, which is keeping you safe. Go now, with the gift of Love, that you might offer love and care to all that you meet.  Go now, with the gift of Knowledge, remembering all that you have learned. With God’s help, live it.  Go now, children, with these words of Jesus in your hearts:  “I will not leave you alone; I am with you always.”
